How the collection actually plays
The easy two-thirds (30%+) sits on or near the main routes — Rascal, Iron Hans, The Ugly Duckling, the Wolf and the Young Goats, The Little Prince and their tier are picked up by simply exploring as you go. If a tale in this band is missing from your list, re-walk the corresponding story area.
The commonly-missed middle (20–30%) hides behind optional fights and side rooms: The Crab and The Monkey (29.7%), Pinocchio (25.4% — collect it while you’re in the Whale Beast’s territory), The Jumper (23.9%), Nightingale (21.8%), Goose That Laid Golden Eggs (21.1%).
The rare tail (under 20%) is questline country:
- The Snow Queen (11.5%) — bound to Gerda and Kai’s storyline, which has failure states (their thread also produces the “The Snow Girl” event at 14.1%). If Gerda dies or Kai is killed, expect this tale to wait for another cycle.
- The blank tale (9.4%) — “[ ]”, the rarest collectible in the game. Deliberately unexplained; treat it as endgame content on a knowledge-complete cycle.
The three Folk Tales — Jeanne d’Arc (42%), Saint of Alexandria (39.8%), Elizabeth Bathory (33.6%) — form their own mini-set: the series’ recurring historical women, carried over from the first game’s boss roster into the sequel’s library. They’re notably more common than the rare Fairy Tales; if you fought these women in BLACK SOULS, their books find you.
The shelf
Setting the fairy tales into the Library’s bookshelf triggers “Sweet dreams” — at 15.3%, rarer than two of the game’s endings. The gap between individual tale rates and the shelf rate is pure attrition: most players finish cycles without ever returning to the Library. Make the shelf a ritual — every time you pass, set what you carry.
